Wine Review: I recently had a chance to try the 2005 & 2006 Le Serre Nuove and I liked them both for very different reasons. The 2005 which was my favorite is very dark purple in color. It opens with a light spicy black cherry like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, very smooth, and elegant with enjoyable spicy black cherry like flavors. The finish is dry and its managed tannins linger for a while. Of the 2 offerings, this wine is the more food friendly vintage and you should enjoy it soon with a New York Strip steak. Cheers – Ken

Winemaker Notes: The 2005 Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia’s strong point is the equilibrium it achieves between bouquet and structure. Its color is bright, and at the same time deep and intense. The younger vines contribute fresh fruit accents to complement the spicy minty notes provided by the more mature vines. A sip stimulates the entire palate, with the ample entrance of the Merlot, which extends, supported by the structure of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and amplified by the freshness of the Petit Verdot's tannins.
