Wine Review: This pitch black colored Syrah from Calcareous is a bit of a fruit bomb. It opens with a coffee and blackberry bouquet with a hint of prune. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, rich, concentrated and fruit forward. The flavor profile is an extracted boysenberry and blackberry blend with notes of cola. I also detected hints of plum and oak. The finish is dry and its fruit flavors are very nicely prolonged. This Syrah is a bit hedonistic. It would be a perfect fireplace wine to enjoy on a cold winter’s night. I would pair it with duck confit with a cherry sauce. Enjoy - Ken
