2011 Losada Spanish Red "El Pajaro Rojo"![]() Winery: Losada Vintage: 2011 Wine Name/Vineyard: "El Pajaro Rojo" Wine Category: Spanish Red Grape blend: 100% Mencia Region: Bierzo State or country: Spain Price: $17 Cases produced: 8,000 KWG Score: 88.6 (based on 3 reviews) Ken's Wine Rating: Very Good (88) Review date: September 29, 2012 Wine Review: This opaque and very dark purple colored wine opens with a plum bouquet with hints of new leather and some barnyard scents. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, juicy and easy to drink. The flavor profile is a ripe plum with notes of old oak and hints of black raspberry and black pepper. The finish is rather dry and its big and dusty tannins build up quite a bit and linger. This Mencia is a very good mid-week wine. I would pair it with brick oven Italian sausage pizza. Enjoy - Ken Winemaker Notes: Old Mencía vines from Bierzo's clay soils. An ample wine, finely textured with notes of blue flowers and red fruits.
