Wine Review: This very dark opaque purple Shiraz presents a crowd pleasing personality that was enjoyed by our tasters. It opens with a mild blueberry bouquet with a hint of oak. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, well balanced, and very smooth. The flavor profile is a gentle blackberry with notes of blueberry and black currant. There was also a touch of black licorice detected as well. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are nicely prolonged and linger. This wine is food friendly and will appeal to readers who like all styles of red wine. It is very versatile. Personally, I would pair it with a messy rack of barbecue short ribs. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: The Hyland unicorn was chosen for the Shiraz label due to its beauty and strength. The 2006 Hyland Shiraz is an elegant, medium-bodied wine with lifted aromas of ripe berry and spice integrated with savory, smoky notes. The middle palate is loaded with silky oak tannin to balance the rich fruit flavors. The finish is long and juicy with just a hint of oak. The Hyland Shiraz is best enjoyed over the next 1-5 years.
