Daniel is the winemaker for <a href=\"https:\/\/daouvineyards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>DAOU<\/u><\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/patrimonyestate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>Patrimony<\/u><\/strong><\/a> wineries. We covered six current-release DAOU wines and two Patrimony wines during the interview. We covered several other DAOU wines in previous tastings, which we will also include in this post. We last interviewed Daniel in March 2024; you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kenswineguide.com\/blog\/?p=2295\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>read that post here.<\/u><\/strong><\/a> Finally, Daniel shared some updates since the last chat, so check out what we learned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Before we get to the wine reviews, I thought I would share a few tidbits we learned during the tasting with Daniel.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What is new at Daou?<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The marriage with Treasury is off to a very good start.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">They left the winemaking team the same.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Daniel expects to release two Napa Cabernet\u2019s in the fall. He wants us to blind taste them against peers.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One will be from the Diamond Ranch on Diamond Mountain.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The second will be from the Gamble Ranch in Oakville.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In 2025 Daniel expects to release two wines from Australia.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Paso Vintage Updates<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2022 was the hardest vintage that Daniel has ever experienced.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One positive is the Petit Verdot was good. PV likes heat, not cooler.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That said, in 2022 they received grapes that usually come in over 2 months, in a very compressed 2-week period of time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">They had to make sacrifices, but they feel they make the right ones.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In 2022 they only made 1,000 cases of Soul of the Lion. They usually make 5,000 to 7,000 cases.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2023 Very Good Year \u2013 PV not so good.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2024 Difficult vintage. Crazy heat wave in August. Lower yields but decent fruit.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Below is a summary of the terrific wines from DAOU and Patrimony that we covered.
