There were 8 panelists present for this tasting. We had 3 wine entries from New Zealand,  3 from Paso Robles, CA  and one entry from each of the following additional regions: Sancerre, France; Napa Valley, CA; Long Island, NY; Finger Lakes, NY;   South Africa; Russian River, CA;   and Mendocino, CA. 13 wines in all  were tasted.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">So what was the result?   New Zealand came out on top with 2 wines finishing in the top 2 spots. The other New Zealand wine was not recommended. The Winner was the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kenswineguide.com\/wine.php?wine=2129\" title=\"St. Clair 2005 Sauvignon Blanc\">2006 St. Clair <\/a>,$16, with a score of 90. This was the only wine to warrant the Very Good + grade from the panel. In second place was the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kenswineguide.com\/wine.php?wine=2562\" title=\"Maven 2006 Sauvignon Blanc\">2006 Maven <\/a>,  $19, with a score of 89.6.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"left\" width=\"100\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kenswineguide.com\/images_wine\/Mulderbosch%202006%20Sauvignon%20Blanc.gif\" alt=\"Mulderbosch 2006 Sauvignon Blanc\" height=\"350\" style=\"width: 100px; height: 350px\" title=\"Mulderbosch 2006 Sauvignon Blanc\" \/> Coming in a close 3<sup>rd<\/sup> was the entry from South Africa. This entry was the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kenswineguide.com\/wine.php?wine=2394\" title=\"Mulderbosch 2006 Sauvignon Blanc\">2006 Mulderbosch <\/a>,$20. This wine was very well liked by the panel and scored an 89.5. <\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">South Africa has always done very well with their Sauvignon Blancs. We will be reviewing a whole slew of South African wines real soon and reporting our results to you shortly in this space.   <font face=\"Times New Roman\">Finishing in 4<sup>th<\/sup> place was an <strong>organic<\/strong> Sauvignon Blanc from Yorkville Cellars. The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kenswineguide.com\/wine.php?wine=2522\" title=\"Yorkville 2005 Sauvignon Blanc\">2005 Yorkville Cellars Mendocino Sauvignon Blanc<\/a>, $15, was very well received by most of the panelists and scored an 88.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\">In 5<sup>th<\/sup> place was  the entry from Sancerre, <country-region><\/country-region>France.<span>   <\/span>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kenswineguide.com\/wine.php?wine=2561\" title=\"C&eacute;lestin Blondeau 2005 Sauvignon Blanc\">2005 Celestin Bloneau, <\/a>$19, finished with a score of 87.5.<span>   <\/span>Finally, the last wine that we recommended was a surprise to the tasting panel.<span>   <\/span>We were very excited to recommend the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kenswineguide.com\/wine.php?wine=2602\" title=\"Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards 2006 Sauvignon Blanc\">2006 Hazlitt 1852  Sauvignon Blanc <\/a>from the Finger Lakes in Upstate NY.<span>   <\/span>This was their first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc that they produced.<span>   <\/span>Kudos on a fine effort.<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">The  KensWineGuide.com  Tasting Panel  reviewed Merlot  on June 22<sup>nd<\/sup>.<span>   <\/span>Check back  soon to see the winners.<span>   <\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><span><\/span>Cheers, <\/font><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Ken<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In May 2007 the KensWineGuide.com Tasting Panel decided to tackle the perfect summer grape, Sauvignon Blanc.
