[tem-prah-NEE-yoh] An important red-wine grape native to northern Spain. Tempranillo can generate deep-colored wines with characteristics of strawberry, spice and fresh tobacco. Because of its lower acidity and alcohol levels, Tempranillo is usually blended with other grape varieties.
