Wine Review: Sometimes big wines come in small packages. That is the story here. This offering from Dr. Loosen won our recent blind tasting of dessert wines. This wines comes is a cute little 187ml bottle. But a little of this wine goes a long way. This light yellow wine opens with a shy and faint apple like bouquet. But on the palate, this medium bodied wine comes alive. This wine is ultra sweet, well balanced, and very flavorful as it displays it crisp apple like flavors with vanilla notes. The finish is very refreshing. The panel felt this wine would pair very well with Dutch apple pie or cheesecake. Enjoy this gem – KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Beerenauslese ("berry select") is a rich, honeyed dessert wine made from grapes that have been shriveled by botrytis, the "Noble Rot." These extremely concentrated, moldy grapes are painstakingly separated from the unaffected fruit and vinified to make one of Germany’s most prized vinous treasures. This Beerenauslese, exclusively from estate-owned vineyards, has a juicy mouthful of ripe fruits with a finish that is long and satisfying, but never heavy. It is perfect as an aperitif, with foie gras, or with light desserts featuring fresh fruits.

Clinking Glasses Before Tasting Wine: Originates from medieval times. Milk was often spoiled, water was often polluted. Wine was usually safe. The host would drink the wine first and then clink glasses with guests to show the wine was good and safe for drinking.
