Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Pinotage from South Africa opens with a fig and blackberry bouquet with hints of cured meat. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is round and balanced with juicy fruits. The flavor profile is a blackberry and cedar blend with notes of menthol and black plum. I also detected hints of cured meat in the aftertaste. The finish is dry, and its flavors and medium tannins are nicely extended. This rustic Pinotage is very good and would pair well with a Texas style smoked beef brisket. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Deep ruby with tints of purple on the rim. Liberal black cherry, ripe mulberry and raspberry confit aromas are followed by plum pudding, smoked meat flavors and savory hints of truffle, as well as good spice oak integration on the long, succulent finish. Drinking well already, it promises to develop savory richness, secondary intrigue, and definitive smoothness with up to 10 years bottle maturation. A sumptuous wine that is tremendously versatile with a variety of gastronomy including venison, duck, lamb, and beef dishes.
