Wine Review: This Syrah from Carlisle was the big winner of this year's big blind tasting. It is very dark purple colored and opens with a prominent fruit forward boysenberry bouquet with a touch of blackberry and oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, very nicely balanced, and smooth as silk. The flavor profile is a very tasty and luscious black currant with hints of black cherry, black pepper, and spice. The finish is quite satisfying as well; with dry fine tannins that are a touch tingly and sail on nicely. The panel suggested that this wine would be perfect with a filet mignon at Grill 23. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Dark ruby-purple. A perfumed, captivating nose of blackberry and cassis is highlighted by savory herbal notes (no doubt from the whole clusters used in fermentation). The wine enters smoothly, quickly enveloping the palate with its creamy, berry goodness. This is already very difficult to resist. In fact, we think this wine is better than the much-heralded 2007. Enjoy from release through 2018. (MRO – 3/15/10)
