Ken's Wine Rating: Very Good (89)

Review date: January 10, 2010

Wine Review: This very dark purple colored Petite is slightly opaque and opens with a mild, yet musty red raspberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced, and has a palate coating texture. The flavor profile is a tasty red currant with notes of black raspberry and dark chocolate. The finish is dry and its dusty tannins are lengthy and sticky. The group thought this would pair nicely with beef stroganoff. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: In the 2005, we believe you'll find a wine that is more reminiscent of the 2003 vintage due to its balance, refinement and, dare we say of a Petite Sirah, elegance. This wine was aged for 24 months in a combination of French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels. Approximately 55% of the total barrels were new oak to impart those toasty, smoky, chocolatey, spicy vanilla notes to the wine. Combined with dense black fruit flavors of Petite Sirah and an enticing peppery-spice streak, we believe you'll enjoy this multi-layered beauty for years to come!
