| 2009 La Jota Merlot "Howell Mountain" Winery: La Jota Vintage: 2009 Wine Name/Vineyard: "Howell Mountain" Wine Category: Merlot Grape blend: 100% Merlot Region: Howell Mountain State or country: CA Price: $55 Cases produced: 122 KWG Score: 92.7 (based on 4 reviews) Ken's Wine Rating: Excellent (94) Review date: October 10, 2012 Wine Review: This Excellent opaque and very dark purple colored Merlot opens with a fragrant blueberry bouquet with hints cranberry and tangerine. On the palate this wine is full bodied, nicely balanced and rich. The flavor profile is a delicious blueberry with notes of black currant. I also detected hints old oak and black licorice. The finish is dry and its dusty fine tannins are pleasant and stick around for a while. This Merlot is very food friendly and would be terrific with shepherd's pie.
