Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Syrah based blend from Marietta opens with a black cherry and cedar bouquet with hints of dark chocolate, violet and touch of cinnamon. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and bright. The flavor profile is a dark chocolate and black currant blend with notes of cedar, blueberry, and stony minerality. I also detected hints of black cherry, black licorice, and a touch of nutmeg. The finish is dry, and its flavors and dusty tannins are nicely prolonged. I would pair this very food friendly red blend with a filet mignon. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: Christo (as his Great-Aunt Marietta called him) is crafted in honor of my father. This California grown Rhône varietal blend is redolent with licorice, slate, and molasses. Brighter notes of honey and lavender lift the nose while added complexity comes in with warm spice and pepper. The mouth is deep, full, and smooth, with a touch of chalk in addition to the broadly scaffolded tannins. A surprising amount of fresh acid leads juicy blackberry across the mouth and focuses the heft of this wine to perfectly balance between joyful exuberance and brooding intensity.
