Wine Review: This slightly opaque and very dark ruby colored Zin from Novy stood out in a mini-flight that I recently covered. It opens with a very fragrant black raspberry jam bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced, and rich. The flavor profile is a fruit forward black raspberry and plum blend with notes of blueberry and a hint of black pepper and old oak on the back palate. The finish is dry and its tingly tannins are nicely prolonged. Yet they still allow the fruit to show thorough. This tasty Zin would pair well with barbecue braised short ribs. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: The 2007 Novy Russian River Valley Zinfandel, is comprised of the more forward, more immediate barrels. The wine shows bold flavors of blueberries and raspberries, hints of earth, smoke, and vanilla, with a creamy texture and only modest tannins. This is the perfect Zinfandel for summertime drinking paired with something off the grill.
