Wine Review: This very dark and slightly opaque garnet colored Cab opens with a fragrant black cherry, tobacco, and musty oak like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, and has a silky texture. The flavor profile is a tasty dusty black raspberry with notes of licorice, black currant, and black pepper. The finish is dry and its building chewy tannins linger for quite a while. The panel really liked this wine. They would be very comfortable stashing this gem away in the cellar for a few years or decanting it this winter with a thick ribeye. Enjoy – KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: The grapes for Back Forty are grown on low yieldingvines on a 40 acre, 1,100-foot elevation vineyard block at the back side of Ferrari-Carano’s RockRise Mountain in Alexander Valley. Vibrant boysenberry, cassis and caramel aromas blend with pure and harmonious layers of blackberry, currant and ripe black cherry flavors on the palate, while nuances of dark chocolate and espresso roast give way to creamy oak flavors and texture. The soft, dense and refined tannins set apart this expansive wine of extraordinary elegance.
