Wine Review: This hazy and deep purple colored Zinfandel from Mauritson opens with a fragrant black raspberry and craisin bouquet with hints of black cherry, loam, and eucalyptus. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, rather smooth, clean, and very fresh. The flavor profile is a raspberry and red plum blend with notes of craisin and black pepper. We also detected hints of stone dust, black tea, dried strawberry, and cedar. The finish is dry, and its flavors, tingly acidity, and moderate tannins are very nicely sustained. We would pair this Zin with lamb lollipops and a mushroom risotto. Enjoy - KWGTP

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Winemaker Interview Series - Mike Kobler of Kobler Estate Winery – July 2026

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Mike Kobler. Mike is the winemaker at Kobler Estate Winery. During the interview, we covered two 2024 rosé wines, one made from Pinot Noir and one made from Syrah. We also covered a 2023 and a 2024 Viognier from the Russian River Valley. Those discussions were followed by a focus on a 2023 and a 2024 Chardonnay from the Bacigalupi Vineyards. We wrapped up the interview with a 2022 Syrah and a 2023 "Reserve" Syrah.
