Wine Review: This hazy and deep garnet colored Zinfandel from Mauritson opens with a black cherry and cinnamon bouquet with hints of cedar, black pepper, and musty peonies. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balance, round, crisp, and clean with nice tension. The flavor profile is a fruit forward blackberry and black pepper blend with notes of oak and graphite. We also detected hints of red licorice, loam, and Ceylon cinnamon. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed moderate tannins are nicely sustained. We would pair this Zin with New York strip steak or with smoked brisket. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Interview Series - Mike Kobler of Kobler Estate Winery – July 2026

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Mike Kobler. Mike is the winemaker at Kobler Estate Winery. During the interview, we covered two 2024 rosé wines, one made from Pinot Noir and one made from Syrah. We also covered a 2023 and a 2024 Viognier from the Russian River Valley. Those discussions were followed by a focus on a 2023 and a 2024 Chardonnay from the Bacigalupi Vineyards. We wrapped up the interview with a 2022 Syrah and a 2023 "Reserve" Syrah.
