Wine Review: This very deep garnet colored Barbera from Michele Chiarlo opens with a blackberry and mild fig bouquet with hints of black licorice. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, and a bit zesty. The flavor profile is a blackberry and black currant blend with notes of black licorice and black pepper. I also detected hints of black tea, clove, stone dust, and oak. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed medium tannins are nicely extended. I would pair this Barbera with a Tuscan wild boar ragu over a pappardelle pasta. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: A bright ruby red, it opens with aromas of violet, blackberries, raspberries, and spicy sweet notes on the nose. It is full bodied and round with harmonious and well-structured flavors of cherry, raspberry, and tobacco. The finish is long and savory. Pairs well with cured meats, pasta with meat sauce, steak, or risotto.
