Wine Review: This clear and straw colored dry-styled Riesling from Wittmann opens with a lemon tea and gardenia bouquet with hints of wet slate and nectarine. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and delicate. The flavor profile is a lime and tonic water blend with notes of green tea and stone fruit. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity show nice length. We would serve this Riesling chilled with Coquilles Saint-Jacques. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Grapes selected from the best vineyards on the Westhofener Berg. This wine showcases the typical limestone minerality of our Premier Cru vineyards. Clear yellow fruit on the nose with a slight smoky note. Juicy and with plenty of grip on the palate. With a long-lasting, salty finish, this Westhofener Riesling unmistakably reveals its origins.

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
