Wine Review: This clear and dark red colored Merlot based blend from Cape May Winery opens with a wild strawberry and red plum bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and gentle. The flavor profile is plum and raspberry tea blend with notes of stone dust. I also detected hints of cedar. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and refined dusty tannins linger nicely. I would pair this approachable red blend with sauteed chicken with rosemary, craisin, and mushrooms. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Crafted from the finest grapes of the Cape May Peninsula, our 2022 Estate Red Field Blend is a rich and complex expression of terroir. Aromas of ripe raspberries intertwine with hints of cocoa powder, leading into a palate bursting with bright fruit medley, juicy plum, and a strong acid backbone. Aged for 22 months in French oak, this blend of 56% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc finishes with a harmonious balance of acidity and tannin, accented by layers of spice and subtle smoke. Elegant yet structured, this wine is built to be savored.

Winemaker Interview Series – Martha Stoumen of Martha Stoumen - April 2025

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, we had the opportunity to interview Martha Stoumen. Martha is the winemaker and owner of Martha Stoumen Wines. We covered three white wines, two rosé wines, and three red wines with Martha. Martha is not your typical California winemaker. She uses lesser-known grapes, makes atypical blends, and has a unique style. You can read about these unique wines and other tidbits we learned from Martha in our latest blog post. Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of Predecessor - April 2025

On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, we had the opportunity to interview Cole Ballentine. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at Predecessor Estate. Cole and his father-built Predecessor Estate to reunite the mountain with their ancestors who once farmed the area. We covered Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon wines from both the 2018 and the 2021 vintages. We also covered the Predecessor Estate reserve Cabernet Sauvignon named "Lorraine" from both the 2016 and the 2108 vintages. These are super-premium offerings; very little of each was made. You can read about these special wines and other tidbits we learned from Cole in our latest blog post. Read This Blog Post
