Wine Review: This clear and dark red colored Pinot Noir from Kosta Browne opens with an inviting stony minerality and black plum bouquet with hints of blueberry and bayberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, delicate, and polished. The flavor profile is a dried strawberry and light stone dust blend with notes of oolong tea, thyme, and gentle blueberry. We also detected hints of black pepper, tobacco, and gentle toasted oak. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed moderate tannins are nicely sustained. We would pair this excellent Pinot Noir with a roast pheasant with sage, pancetta, and marsala gravy. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: The 2023 Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir is a testament to its exceptional terroir. Fermented mostly in concrete and then aged in 38% French barrels for 14 months, as always a wine of unique depth and remarkable complexity. In the glass the nose fills with the aromas of blueberry syrup, violet liqueur, and earthy layers with cocoa powder and hints of cardamom and wild sage, creating a rich and intriguing bouquet. On the palate, a powerful, juicy entry leads to a savory, jammy mid-palate, giving a velvety mouthfeel with plenty of weight and depth. The finish is vibrant, with lingering notes of dried cherry, perfectly balanced by the wine’s structured richness and polished tannin.

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. On Thursday, May 28, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Jeff Gaffner again. Jeff is the winemaker and owner of Saxon Brown Wines. During the interview, we covered four single-vineyard 2023 Chardonnays, three Pinot Noirs, a cuvee, and two single-vineyard offerings, also from the 2023 vintage.
