Wine Review: This slightly opaque and very dark ruby colored Zinfandel from Dry Creek Vineyard is very good. It opens with a black raspberry and blueberry bouquet with hints of black cherry and black pepper. On the palate, this wine medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, smooth, and quite zesty. The flavor profile is a black raspberry and black pepper blend with notes of black licorice and saline. I also detected hints of black tea and stone dust. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and dusty moderate tannins linger nicely. I would pair this food friendly Zin with teriyaki beef skewers. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Rich and inviting, this Zinfandel opens with aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, black cherry and plum layered with notes of cocoa powder, dark chocolate, and blueberry. Warm baking spices of nutmeg, cinnamon, coriander, and cardamom intertwine with hints of white and black pepper, toasted cedar, and damp earth. The palate is vibrant and layered, revealing flavors of blackberry, raspberry, and cranberry alongside black and red cherries, and spiced plum. Deeper notes of cocoa, espresso, fine leather, and forest floor add complexity. Plush and full through the mid-palate, round tannins are balanced by bright fruit, leading to a smooth, lingering finish.

Winemaker Interview Series - Mike Kobler of Kobler Estate Winery – July 2026

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Mike Kobler. Mike is the winemaker at Kobler Estate Winery. During the interview, we covered two 2024 rosé wines, one made from Pinot Noir and one made from Syrah. We also covered a 2023 and a 2024 Viognier from the Russian River Valley. Those discussions were followed by a focus on a 2023 and a 2024 Chardonnay from the Bacigalupi Vineyards. We wrapped up the interview with a 2022 Syrah and a 2023 "Reserve" Syrah.
