Wine Review: Revisiting this dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Black Kite we found it to open with a gentle red raspberry, strawberry, and vanilla bouquet with hints of wintergreen, violets, and forest floor. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated moderate plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth, and sturdy. The flavor profile is a tasty red raspberry and cranberry blend with notes of lingonberry and black pepper. We also detected hints of cinnamon, cedar, chocolate, and light oolong tea. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and gentle soft tannins glide away. This Pinot is still drinking very nicely. We would pair this polished wine with sauteed duck breast with a cherry sauce or with a rack of lamb. Enjoy - KWGTP
Original Review 6/7/24 (95): This medium ruby colored Pinot Noir from Black Kite opens with a wintergreen and red currant bouquet with hints of red raspberry, clove, and strawberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated moderate acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, and caressing. The flavor profile is red plum and green tea blend with notes of red raspberry and cranberry. We also detected some hints of cinnamon, earthy loam, and clove. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and fine tannins drift away nicely. The Tasting Panel would pair this polished Pinot with coq au vin or a mushroom risotto. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: An absolutely arresting wine, our 2021 Anderson Valley Angel Hawk epitomizes the vibrant fruit and racy acidity that marked this vintage at its best. A bright core of red fruit is complemented by notes of dried rose petal potpourri florals, clove tobacco and Asian spice. On the palate, high-toned fruit and spice notes gain mouth filling richness, creating a lovely tension that persists through the long, focused finish. Decant before drinking for the first 18 months following release or lay down for 10-15+ years.
