Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Syrah from St. Amant is a very good value. It opens with a black currant and black olive bouquet with hints of eucalyptus and black cherry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and easy to drink. The flavor profile is an elderberry and hot cinnamon blend with notes of black cherry and clove. I also detected hints of spiced plum and cedar. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and fine tannins drift away nicely. I would pair this food friendly Syrah with Provencal beef stew. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: From our Amador County vineyard and aged for 16 months in barrels, the 2022 Syrah has a ripe core of blackberries, dried flowers, pepper, and a spicy grippy finish. It’s a delightful wine that should evolve well over the next 5-7 years and will pair well with braised short ribs or an In-N-Out burger.
