Wine Review: This opaque and deep ruby colored Carménère from Carmen opens with a shy black plum, tar, and basil bouquet with hints of red raspberry and cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, and sophisticated. The flavor profile is a gentle raspberry and black plum blend with notes of black pepper, mild green bell pepper, and gentle tobacco. We also detected hints of stone dust and spice with a touch of oak. The finish is dry, and it displays refined medium tannins. We would pair this elegant Carménère with a grilled flat iron steak. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Delanz Carmenere Apalta is an elegant and fresh wine, with vibrant tannins that seek to highlight its fruitiness and freshness without leaving aside the spicy character of the Carmenere. This wine achieves a perfect balance between delicacy and juiciness, while its tannins provide texture that enhances the complexity of this wine. - Ana María Cumsille, winemaker

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Recently, our coverage has expanded beyond just the Governor’s Cup winners. Ken has been so impressed with Virginia wines that Theresa and he visited some wineries in the Charlottesville region in October of 2024. We highly recommend that you check out the six Virginia wineries in this post. We will start from the south near Charlottesville in the Monticello AVA and make our way north. Read This Blog Post
