Wine Review: This clear and very pale straw-colored Riesling from Villa Wolf opens with a peonies flower and lime zest bouquet with hints of white pepper and sea mist. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is bright and zesty. The flavor profile is a lime zest and ruby grapefruit blend with notes of stone fruit. The finish is slightly off dry, and its flavors and acidity linger nicely. We would pair this Riesling with baked stuffed clam. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: This modern-style dry Riesling is sourced from vineyards throughout the Pfalz region and reflects the fresh and balanced taste that all Villa Wolf wines strive to achieve. It beautifully captures the peachy fruit and stony structure that are characteristic of Rieslings grown in the sandy loam soils and warm, sunny climate of the Pfalz. Refreshing and delicious on its own, it also pairs well with cheeses, savory vegetarian dishes, and anything involving fish, chicken or pork.

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
