Wine Review: This clear and dark ruby colored Shiraz from Mollydooker opens with a fragrant blackberry and black licorice bouquet with hints of coconut, molasses, and orange peel. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, seamless and mouthwatering. The flavor profile is an extracted blackberry and black licorice blend with notes of dark chocolate, cola, and blueberry. I also detected hints of toasted coconut and molasses. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate tannins linger and last for quite some time. I would pair this Shiraz with a pan-seared duck breast with a blackberry sauce and/or with dark chocolate. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: Black crimson in color, this wine leaps from the glass with powerful aromatics of blueberries, fresh plum, licorice and nuances of chocolate biscuit. The seamless texture is laced with fresh berry fruit, coffee, vanilla cream, and warm spice, giving us a full-bodied Shiraz with an endless depth of flavor and great length.

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
