Wine Review: This slightly hazy and dark ruby colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Memento Mori is fantastic! It opens with a black currant and green olive bouquet with hints of red cherry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is beautifully balanced, silky, and seamless. The flavor profile is a delicious black currant and stone dust blend with notes of stewed black plum and blackberry tea. We also detected hints of oak, blueberry, and vanilla. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and refined and polished dusty tannins drift away nicely. This wine is as close to perfect as you can get. We would pair this unbelievable Cab with the American Kobe cap steak from Grill 23 in Boston. Enjoy - Ken & Stuart

Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard, Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard, Memento Mori Estate Vineyard, Oakville Ranch Vineyard, Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard, and Weitz Vineyard. It opens with exotic aromas of crushed blackberries, Mirabelle plums, mocha, creme de cassis, gravel, pipe tobacco, and spiced toffee meld effortlessly into an unctuous palate full of wild boysenberries, blueberries, black tea, iron, cassis, cardamom, and wet stone. Additional layers of truffle, leather, and warm earth continue to evolve with time in the glass, framed by exquisite tannins and a crimson acidity that perfectly exemplify the vintage. Sophisticated and balanced, the plush finish brings this decadently layered wine to its beautiful climax.

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Jeff Gaffner again. Jeff is the winemaker and owner of Saxon Brown Wines. During the interview, we covered four single-vineyard 2023 Chardonnays, three Pinot Noirs, a cuvee, and two single-vineyard offerings, also from the 2023 vintage.
