Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Syrah from J. Lohr opens with a blackberry and red licorice bouquet with hints of cured meat and nutmeg. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and savory. The flavor profile is a cedar influenced ripe black raspberry blend with notes of salami and boysenberry. I also detected hints of black coffee and toffee. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate dusty tannins linger for a while. I would decant this slightly rustic Syrah briefly before pairing it with duck confit tacos with blackberry mole sauce. Enjoy - Ken
