Wine Review: This clear and ruby colored Gamay Noir from Pax opens with an inviting dried strawberry and loam bouquet with hints of cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, bright, crisp, and fresh. The flavor profile is a strawberry and loam blend with notes of red licorice and marionberry. We also detected hints of maraschino cherry and cinnamon. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and fine tannins drift away nicely. This wine benefits even more from some aeration. The longer it is open, the better it gets! So, give it a good decant before pairing it with Chinese spareribs or lamb lollipops. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: This muscular wine opens with bright aromas of wild strawberry, cinnamon, and Bing cherry, lifted by rose petal and a subtle earthy spice. A savory edge of crushed granite and dried herbs adds depth and character. On the palate, it’s juicy and vibrant, with a density unique to the vintage with the refreshing acidity you'd expect. Flavors of red currant, pomegranate, and tart cherry glide into a clean, mineral-driven finish with a dash of tannin that bodes well for short term cellaring.

Winemaker Interview Series – Julien Howsepian – Kosta Browne – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, we interviewed Julien Howsepian. Julien is the winemaker at Kosta Browne Winery. We covered nine wines during our visit. We started with a 2023 vintage Chardonnay. Then we tried two AVA focused Pinot Noir from 2023 and followed that up with two single vineyard 2023 Pinot Noirs. We concluded the tasting with a mini-vertical of 2022 and 2023 vintage Pinots from Volnay and Beaune. It was a terrific and very interesting portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what we learned about Julien, the history of Kosta Browne and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines. Read This Blog Post

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
