Wine Review: This vibrant Chardonnay from California’s Central Coast is a very pale straw color, and displays aromas of gardenias, lime zest, nectarine, and Galia melon. Upon entry, I found a slightly creamy mouthfeel that is medium-plus bodied with medium-plus acidity. It is also balanced, fresh, elegant, and easy drinking. The flavors include nectarine, Bartlett pear, lemongrass, and wet stone with notes of melon and mandarin orange. The finish is clean and refreshing. Serve lightly chilled with citrus marinated grilled halibut. - Mark

Winemaker Notes: This second vintage of our J. Lohr Estates “Paperwhite Unoaked” Chardonnay. It continues to spotlight a lighter, more fruit-forward style of Chardonnay. Our lightly colored 2024 “Paperwhite Unoaked” Chardonnay reveals varietal aromas of white flower, lemon citrus zest, and hazelnut along with a fresh, crisp palate and fruit-saturated finish. Paperwhite displays ripe, focused Chardonnay fruit character that is perfect for sipping solo or pairing to a wide range of lighter fare such as sea bass with spring vegetables or fresh shellfish.

Winemaker Interview Series – Brian Pruett – Dry Creek Vineyard – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, we interviewed Brian Pruett. Brian is the winemaker at Dry Creek Vineyard. We covered eight wines during the visit. We started with Chenin Blanc and a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, both from the 2024 vintage. Then we tried three single-vineyard and one historic-field-blend Zinfandel from the 2022 vintage. As you will recall, we really liked 2022 as a Zinfandel vintage. Finally, we wrapped up with their 2021 Red Blend and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2022 vintage. It was a great tasting and a lot of fun. In this post, you can learn what we learned about Brian and the history of the winery and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines. Then we tried two AVA focused Pinot Noir from 2023 and followed that up with two single vineyard 2023 Pinot Noirs. We concluded the tasting with a mini-vertical of 2022 and 2023 vintage Pinots from Volnay and Beaune. It was a terrific and very interesting portfolio tasting.
