Wine Review: This dark red, upstate New York Cabernet Franc from the Finger Lakes region has aromas of red plum, earthy rhubarb, leather, and a touch of red bell pepper. With a very smooth and juicy mouthfeel, the palate is bright, balanced, medium bodied, moderately acidic, and zesty. There are flavors of cranberry, stoney minerality, red plum, and black tea with a note of graphite. The light sticky tannins linger in the dry, long finish. I would serve with hearty hunter’s stew. – Mark

Winemaker Notes: Ruby red in hue, the MJW Vineyard Cabernet Franc opens with aromas of plum and dried fruit. The bright and expressive palate showcases ripe red fruits with subtle notes of peppadew. Polished and well-balanced, this versatile wine pairs beautifully with venison or sharp cheddar.

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Winemaker Interview Series - Mike Kobler of Kobler Estate Winery – July 2026

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Mike Kobler. Mike is the winemaker at Kobler Estate Winery. During the interview, we covered two 2024 rosé wines, one made from Pinot Noir and one made from Syrah. We also covered a 2023 and a 2024 Viognier from the Russian River Valley. Those discussions were followed by a focus on a 2023 and a 2024 Chardonnay from the Bacigalupi Vineyards. We wrapped up the interview with a 2022 Syrah and a 2023 "Reserve" Syrah.
