Wine Review: This clear and light red colored Pinot Noir from Whitehall Lane opens with lilac and red cherry bouquet with hints of red raspberry tart and musty clay. On the palate, this wine is medium minus bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, elegant, and refined. The flavor profile is a red plum and stone dust blend with notes of raspberry tea. We also detected hints of oolong tea, red cherry, and tobacco. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and mild dusty tannins are nicely polished and sustained. We would pair this delicate Pinot with beef carpaccio and veal scallopini. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: This 2024 Sonoma Stage Vineyard Pommard Clone Pinot Noir has aromatic layers of maraschino cherries, pomegranates, strawberry tart, cherry lollipop, licorice, and a touch of spice box. On the palate, bright acidity intermingles with wild strawberries, Rainier cherries, cranberry scones, wild game, and a hint of white pepper. All these elements burst from this wine with a textured, round mouthfeel and long-structured finish.

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
