Wine Review: This clear and dark red colored blend from Raffaldini opens with a fresh cut cedar and teaberry gum bouquet with hints of mulberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and a little zesty. The flavor profile is a stony minerality and stewed red plum blend with notes of cedar and blueberry. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate tannins show nice length. I would pair this Sagrantino based wine with a pulled pork shoulder platter. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Il Falco translates from the Italian as The Falcon, a play on Monte Falco (Falco Mountain) where Sagrantino hails. Sagrantino loves hot weather and has made itself quite at home in our vineyard, as the wines display immense power and structure. Sagrantino responds well to our Appassimento drying technique, displaying concentrated flavors of dried plums, dried cherries, currant, and savory characteristics reminiscent of pipe tobacco. Sagrantino is the Umbrian’s companion some of Italy’s most cherished cuisines, black truffles, and wild boar. It’s a super tannin bomb, and those of you with patience will be rewarded with an incredible flavor evolution as the wine will soften up and new flavors will emerge with a few years in the cellar.
