Wine Review: This (reboot of an iconic) Napa Cab is a deep ruby color with a bouquet of black currant, cherry compote, leather jacket, vanilla bean, and strawberry creme. On the palate, it is velvety smooth, well-balanced, full bodied with integrated medium-plus acidity. The mouthfeel is supple, seamless, layered, and luxurious. I found flavors of cassis, marionberry, vanilla, caramel, mild oak, and crushed stone along with hints of dried strawberry, topsoil, anise, and mocha. The well-managed round tannins linger for quite a while in the finish. This polished Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon can be enjoyed on its own or served with Stuart's steak treats appetizer. - Mark

Winemaker Notes: Aromatics of dark cherry and cassis, layered with crushed violet and a refined graphite edge. The palate is seamless and composed, showing clean, focused fruit framed by silky, finely resolved tannins that glide rather than grip. There’s an effortless balance here, where freshness and structure work in tandem, allowing the wine to feel both generous and precise.

Winemaker Interview Series – Brian Pruett – Dry Creek Vineyard – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, we interviewed Brian Pruett. Brian is the winemaker at Dry Creek Vineyard. We covered eight wines during the visit. We started with Chenin Blanc and a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, both from the 2024 vintage. Then we tried three single-vineyard and one historic-field-blend Zinfandel from the 2022 vintage. As you will recall, we really liked 2022 as a Zinfandel vintage. Finally, we wrapped up with their 2021 Red Blend and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2022 vintage.
