Wine Review: This translucent and dark ruby colored Zinfandel from Ravenswood opens with an inviting fruit punch jellybean and vanilla bouquet with hints of spiced plum and cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, fresh, and mouthwatering. The flavor profile is a mulberry and red currant blend with notes of cedar and fruit punch. I also detected hints of candied violets, spice, Mounds candy bar, and a dash of black pepper. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and its dusty tannins linger and are nicely sustained. I would pair this Zin with Portuguese duck rice (aka Arroz de Pato) Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Ravenswood is driven by a desire to craft Zinfandel of striking character with a distinct point of view. To showcase the quality and expression of MacMurray Vineyard Zinfandel, the wine was first cold soaked for five days, then fermented in a traditional closed-top tank to highlight the bright fruit and herbal aromatics. We used cool temperatures to preserve the fruit forward notes in the wine, followed by gentle extraction techniques to ensure a full but soft structure. The wine was aged for 12 months on a mix of French and Hungarian oak, 16% new, adding structure and hints of brown spice.
