Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Barbera from St. Amant opens with a black cherry and blackberry bouquet with hints of cedar and light loam. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and juicy. The flavor profile is a mild dried strawberry and red plum blend with notes of cinnamon and black cherry. I also detected hints of craisin, nutmeg, and light loam. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and mild tannins drift away nicely. I would pair this very good Barbera with Morrette's famous thin sliced steak sandwich smothered with a classic marinara sauce. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: This lively Italian variety has been a quiet stalwart in California viticulture. Both rich and light-bodied, this uncelebrated grape has a long history in Lodi's sandy soils where it makes vibrant flavorful wines. It displays notes of fresh cranberries, dried cherries, and wet earth. I call it my pizza wine...it's delicious, unpretentious, and is the perfect food wine.
