Wine Review: This consistently very good, Trocken (dry), Estate Riesling from the Rheinhessen region of Germany is a straw color in the glass, with aromas of lime, white peach, chalk dust, Galia melon, and wet slate. It is crisp and mouthwatering on the palate with a medium body and high acidity. It's fresh, vibrant, pure, and food friendly. There are flavors of fresh lemon-lime, chalky minerality, Galia melon, and a hint of saline. A slight touch of fine tannins in the refreshing long finish. Serve chilled with some briney oysters on the half shell or with a pork tenderloin with an apricot glaze. - Mark
Winemaker Notes: The Wittmann Estate Riesling Trocken is harvested by hand from estate-owned vineyards around the village of Westhofen, in the southern part of the Rheinhessen region. It is fermented with native yeasts and matured in large, neutral oak casks. This forceful, yet elegant, Riesling shows the stately character of this region and the artistic sensibilities of the Wittmann family.
