Wine Review: This opaque and very dark garnet colored Zinfandel from Rockpile is excellent. It opens with a black cherry and cola bouquet with hints of cocoa powder, boysenberry, and nutmeg. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, layered, and a little zesty. The flavor profile is very complex. It is a tasty blend of stewed black plum and marionberry with notes of cola and tobacco. We also detected hints of graphite, cedar, black licorice, bay leaf, and black tea. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and mild tannins drift away nicely. We would pair this impressive Zin with Grandma’s lasagna or with short ribs and mashed potatoes. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Our 2023 Jack's Cabin has an intense deep magenta hue, foreshadowing the beauty and depth of this beguiling Rockpile Zinfandel. On the nose, perfumed aromas of summer-ripened black raspberry, bramble brush, and Santa Rosa plum skin linger along with undertones of candied-violet and roasted coffee grounds. Fresh and energetic on the palate, this lovely wine has staying power and balance, along with firm and voluptuous tannins. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it will age gracefully over the next 8+ years.
