Wine Review: This opaque and deep purple colored Cabernet Sauvignon from AXR is excellent! It opens with a shy blackberry and black plum bouquet with hints of stone dust. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth, and dense. The flavor profile is a yummy blend of stewed black plum and graphite blend with notes of blueberry and cocoa. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and very dusty tannins are very nicely extended. We would pair this impressive Cab with a well-marbled ribeye steak. Enjoy - Ken and Stuart

Winemaker Notes: The 2023 vintage in Napa Valley will be remembered as a vintage for the ages, with ideal conditions that delivered exceptional fruit quality across the board. These wines are a stunning expression of what Napa Valley can achieve when nature aligns perfectly. The 2023 AxR1 is the flagship Cabernet Sauvignon of AXR Napa Valley, crafted to embody balance, depth, and elegance. A masterful blend of the finest barrels of our Single Vineyards, it reflects Jean Hoefliger’s vision of a complete wine in every vintage. Rich, layered, and expressive, AxR1 captures the timeless beauty of Napa Valley.

Recently, our coverage has expanded beyond just the Governor’s Cup winners. Ken has been so impressed with Virginia wines that Theresa and he visited some wineries in the Charlottesville region in October of 2024. We highly recommend that you check out the six Virginia wineries in this post. We will start from the south near Charlottesville in the Monticello AVA and make our way north. Read This Blog Post
