Wine Review: This clear and ruby colored Pinot Noir from Merry Edwards opens with a fragrant black raspberry and red beet bouquet with hints of pomegranate, cinnamon, and saddle leather. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, lush, and fruit forward. The flavor profile is a black raspberry and loam blend with notes of blackberry tea and bacon. We also detected hints of cranberry, strawberry, cedar. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and its dusty tannins stick around for quite some time. We would pair this Pinot with duck confit crostini appetizers or with a smoked pork chop. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Our 2023 "Olivet Lane" Pinot Noir shows a distinctively earthy, opulent nose, with aromatics of sweet dried fig, vanilla fudge, Rainier cherry, and toasted almonds. The generous entry introduces bold tannins balanced on the palate by bright acidity.

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
