Wine Review: This opaque and very dark garnet colored Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from McPrice Myers opens with a black currant and dark chocolate bouquet with hints of black cherry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, smooth, and savory. The flavor profile is a blueberry and dark chocolate covered black cherry blend with notes of tobacco and oolong tea. I also detected hints of oak and graphite. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and mild tannins linger nicely. Everyone that tried this liked it. I would pair this red blend with a shepherd’s pie. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Our plush, Paso-born proprietary red - a Cabernet–Syrah–Petit Verdot tête-à-tête - leans into 2023’s cooler profile with lifted blue/black fruits, violet, and graphite over polished structure. Prior vintages showed cassis/blueberry richness and sturdy tannins; 2023 layers in brighter acidity and savory detail from the long, slow ripening. Enjoy it now for its generosity or lay it down to watch the spice and minerality unfold. Drinking window is now until 2040.

Winemaker Interview Series – Brian Pruett – Dry Creek Vineyard – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, we interviewed Brian Pruett. Brian is the winemaker at Dry Creek Vineyard. We covered eight wines during the visit. We started with Chenin Blanc and a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, both from the 2024 vintage. Then we tried three single-vineyard and one historic-field-blend Zinfandel from the 2022 vintage. As you will recall, we really liked 2022 as a Zinfandel vintage. Finally, we wrapped up with their 2021 Red Blend and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2022 vintage. It was a great tasting and a lot of fun. In this post, you can learn what we learned about Brian and the history of the winery and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
