Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Merry Edwards is a richer style of Pinot. It opens with a loganberry and red plum bouquet with hints of red licorice, orange peel, and wild strawberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, seamless and lush. The flavor profile is a concentrated black cherry and red plum blend with notes of stone dust and loganberry. I also detected hints of tobacco and oregano. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and dusty mild tannins linger nicely. I would pair this Pinot Noir with duck confit. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: The 6-acre Coopersmith vineyard is our winery’s home ranch and was purchased by Merry Edwards in 1999. It is planted to 100% UCD37 Pinot Noir clone (Merry’s Clone), which is distinctive for the tiny berries it produces. They are deep in color and rich in tannins, which in turn create luscious mouthfeel. The 2023 vintage of Coopersmith Pinot Noir greets us with notes of raspberry sorbet, chocolate-covered cherry, dark cocoa, and blueberry. This wine builds on entry and continues to broaden on the palate, offering up sweet fruit and a creamy texture. The focused finish features an espresso edge with a dusting of cocoa.
