Wine Review: This slightly cloudy and hay colored Chardonnay from Patz & Hall opens with a pineapple, light oak, and banana bouquet with hints of bee's wax, pear, and coconut. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, slightly viscous, and rich. The flavor profile is a pineapple and dried coconut blend with notes of pear and oak. We also detected hints of white pepper, baked apple, vanilla, and flaky pastry. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity drift away nicely. This Chard benefits from some aeration while its young. After some good swirling or a decant, we would pair this Chard with coconut shrimp or with crab bisque. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: This Chardonnay is from blocks planted for Patz & Hall in 1997 and 1999 using the famous “Hyde Wente” selection of Chardonnay. The 2022 Hyde Chardonnay demonstrates why this vineyard has been a three-star, acclaimed Patz & Hall offering for over 30 years. The just ripe pomaceous fruit mingles seamlessly with the vanilla spice from careful new French oak ageing. Evidence of lees contact show by richness of palate and a nuance of toast and flint. This wine has wonderfully fresh acidity that is contrasted by startling deep, rich textures, a seeming contradiction, found in only the greatest Chardonnays. (Unfined and Unfiltered)
