Wine Review: This food friendly Cabernet Sauvignon based red from Washington state is a translucent medium ruby color, with aromas of red currant, blackberry, shoe leather, nutmeg, and fresh floral notes. Medium-plus body and medium-plus acidity on the palate, it's fresh, balanced, and quite smooth. There are flavors of blackberry, black cherry, lightly toasted oak, and black tea, with notes of strawberry, vanilla, and baking spice. Fine grained tannins in the dry finish pleasantly drifts away. Enjoy with grilled marinated steak tips. - Mark

Winemaker Notes: This vintage features rich aromas of blackberry, black currant, and plum, with hints of floral black tea. It reveals deeper notes of black fruit and fig, complemented by baking spice. On the palate, it delivers a full-bodied experience with sweet tannins and a mix of red and black fruit, culminating in a vibrant finish with a hint of raspberry ganache.

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
