Wine Review: This opaque and medium purple colored Petite Sirah from V. Sattui opens with a brambleberry and licorice bouquet with hints of cinnamon and black cherry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, and dense. The flavor profile is a black raspberry and cinnamon blend with notes of teaberry gum and spiced black plum. I also detected hints of cedar, craisin and a touch of red licorice. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and moderate tannins linger and last nicely. I would pair this Petite Sirah with a tangy pulled pork sandwich. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: This bold and expressive Petite Sirah makes an impression from the first pour, its deep, dark color hinting at the richness ahead. The palate remains surprisingly approachable thanks to its soft, supple texture. Concentrated flavors of blackberry and red raspberry take the lead, unfolding with a richness that matches the wine's full-bodied frame. A subtle gamey note adds complexity and depth, giving the wine an earthy, savory edge that grounds the vibrant fruit. Firm, solid tannins carry through to a long, satisfying finish, making this a muscular yet refined expression of the variety. It shines alongside hearty dishes like braised short ribs or with a rosemary lamb.

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Recently, our coverage has expanded beyond just the Governor’s Cup winners. Ken has been so impressed with Virginia wines that Theresa and he visited some wineries in the Charlottesville region in October of 2024. We highly recommend that you check out the six Virginia wineries in this post. We will start from the south near Charlottesville in the Monticello AVA and make our way north. Read This Blog Post
