Wine Review: This clear and medium gold colored Viognier from Cantadora opens with a shy apricot and grilled pineapple bouquet with hints of orange peel and bee’s wax. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, slightly viscous, and rich. The flavor profile is a honey and poached Bosc pear blend with notes of butterscotch and apricot. We also detected hints of tangerine, shortbread cookie, and stony minerality. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity linger and last for quite some time. We would pair this Viognier with a New England lobster roll. Enjoy - KWGTP

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Winemaker Interview Series – Jeff Gaffner of Saxon Brown – May 2026

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Jeff Gaffner again. Jeff is the winemaker and owner of Saxon Brown Wines. During the interview, we covered four single-vineyard 2023 Chardonnays, three Pinot Noirs, a cuvee, and two single-vineyard offerings, also from the 2023 vintage. We wrapped up the tasting with a 2023 Zinfandel. On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Joel Peterson again. Joel is the winemaker and owner of Once & Future Wines.
