Wine Review: This slightly opaque and dark ruby colored Red Blend from Arborum opens with a black cherry and red plum bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, and seamless. The flavor profile is a tasty cassis and cedar blend with notes of blueberry and stone dust. We also detected hints of pomegranate. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and well-managed refined tannins are nicely sustained. We would pair this Red Blend with a prime aged bone-in filet mignon. Enjoy - Ken & Stuart

Winemaker Notes: Arborum 2023 Proprietary Red has remarkable purity, with red raspberry, marasca cherry, licorice, and "S'mores" aromas. It is at once precise and expansive, entering with a laser focus of red fruits and exotic spice, then flowing across the palate and leaving a lingering sensation of fruit-driven acidity, structured tannins, and notes of black cherry, star anise, flint, and clove. This wine has so much to offer in its youth and will continue to blossom over the next two decades at least.

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. On Thursday, May 28, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Jeff Gaffner again. Jeff is the winemaker and owner of Saxon Brown Wines. During the interview, we covered four single-vineyard 2023 Chardonnays, three Pinot Noirs, a cuvee, and two single-vineyard offerings, also from the 2023 vintage. We wrapped up the tasting with a 2023 Zinfandel.
