Wine Review: This medium garnet colored Pinot Noir from Titus opens with a Devil’s food cake and black plum bouquet with hints of toasted pecan and flint. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, and savory. The flavor profile is a graphite influenced black cherry and mild tobacco blend with notes of black currant and Chinese five spice. We also detected hints of oak, dark chocolate, and black pepper. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and medium tannins linger nicely. This Pinot benefits from some aeration. I would decant it in the near term before pairing it with teriyaki grilled steak tips. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: The third release of our Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir is a graceful, lithe wine with a balanced fruit profile. Cherry cola, and dried strawberry notes meld into a bouquet with nutmeg, rose, and potpourri aroma. On the palate, the flavors are bright and fresh leading with pomegranate, dark cola, and a hint of juniper that round into a smooth tannin profile. The Goldridge soils in this vineyard contribute to the elegant and refined tannins, with minerality and on the finish. Enjoy now through 2030.

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
