Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Dry Creek Vineyard opens with a blueberry and black licorice bouquet with hints of vanilla, blackberry, and tobacco. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, fresh, and dense. The flavor profile is an extracted blackberry and black licorice blend with notes of tobacco and black cherry. I also detected hints of stony minerality, cocoa, espresso, and oak. The finish is dry, and its fruit flavors, acidity, and medium tannins are nicely sustained. I would pair this Red Blend with a beef bourguignon. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: At first swirl, the wine displays aromas of black currant, cranberry, black cherry, and boysenberry. Several more minutes reveal hints of damp earth, cedar, and dark chocolate. The palate has dark berry flavors along with earthy complexity and savory tones. It finishes with notes of cocoa powder, fine leather, and cinnamon. Good acidity will help this wine to age beautifully for years to come.

Recently, our coverage has expanded beyond just the Governor’s Cup winners. Ken has been so impressed with Virginia wines that Theresa and he visited some wineries in the Charlottesville region in October of 2024. We highly recommend that you check out the six Virginia wineries in this post. We will start from the south near Charlottesville in the Monticello AVA and make our way north. Read This Blog Post
